The Sleep By Emma Approach

At Sleep By Emma, I believe in a holistic approach to sleep consulting where I take into account the unique needs of each child and family. My methods are based on the latest research and years of experience to help you and your child get the rest you both need.

About Me

Hello, my name is Emma, founder of ‘Sleep by Emma’, a practicing NHS Midwife and qualified Sleep Consultant for babies and toddlers.

I was born in Cambridge (UK) and I am now back working and living in Cambridge with my husband Mike, my son and three fury friends (Max, Remy & Vee, our cats). I am a very proud mummy to Saint, born last year April 2022. Saint is now 2 years old and such a happy boy! I waited a very long time for Saint and finally became a mummy for the first time at the age of 41.

I have been a qualified Midwife for 10 years (BSc Midwifery 1 st Class Honours) working for the NHS and now I’m back from maternity leave, I work part-time two days a week as a community Midwife. I have worked for many years on Labour Ward and out in the community doing a job I am so passionate about and truly love.

When Saint was born I was totally oblivious to Newborn / Babies sleep and was completely ‘winging it’, doing my own research and hoping for the best. I then, in a totally sleep deprived state when he was around 5 months old reached out to a Sleep Consultant for some help and support. She was amazing and really helped us get back on track and gave me the confidence to try new routines and ditch the dummy! I thought to myself ………“I can absolutely do this!”

During that time it really sparked an interest (maybe obsession) with Saint’s sleep and I gave myself a big push to become a Sleep Consultant myself. Ever since I can remember, I have always been weirdly obsessed with sleep. How much/or little I’m getting, other peoples sleep, how many hours and what time you wake up. I am also well aware of what sleep deprivation feels like after doing years of night shifts in the hospital and night ’on calls’ for homebirths. Then, when Saint was born, that was just another level of tiredness that everyone tries to prepare you for but nothing ever really could.

I am now a fully qualified Sleep Practitioner, OCN Level 5 (foundation degree level) and studied with the London School of Childcare Studies. The course covered all aspects of child sleep and also included topics such as child behaviour and temperament, food intolerances, allergies, reflux, twins and special needs. I am also fully trained in breastfeeding and formula feeding at BFI Standard (Unicef, Baby Friendly Initiative) and can offer new mum’s extra support in their 4th trimester.

I will never use ‘Cry it Out’ methods, I will never tell you not to respond to your baby, I will never suggest anything that you and your family are not comfortable with. We will work together as a Team and review your little ones routine and schedule and make the right changes for you and your baby. All my advice is holistic, individual to your baby and evidence based.

I know how transformative a few solid hours of sleep can make you feel. It is like medicine. Sleep improves your mental health, wellbeing, improves relationships and how we cope with stresses in our day to day lives better. I hope to be that support you need to get your whole family sleeping again. I offer a free, 15 minute, call (bookable here) to enable you to see if I am the right fit for your family. My support packages, available to purchase from my website, will help you make those positive steps towards getting back your precious sleep.
